There are 18 major makers in this dataset. Some you know. Some you have never heard of. They moved millions of vehicles.
5,88,266 units sold by Ola Electric since 2021, more than any other maker in any category.
But the story is not just about Ola. TVS, Ather, and Bajaj all grew fast. Hero Electric and Okinawa, early leaders, collapsed. Both peaked in 2022 and fell sharply in 2023–24. The market is brutal and fast-moving.
While everyone debated electric cars, the three-wheeler market had already moved. By 2019, 1,33,496 three-wheelers were registered, against just 30,376 two-wheelers.
The EV revolution in India began not with scooters or cars. It started with last-mile freight and passenger rickshaws in tier-2 cities.
Tata Motors accounts for 1,46,728 electric car registrations from 2015 to 2024, nearly 80% of all EV car sales in India.
MG Motor is second with 23,342. Mahindra is third with 12,379. Hyundai, BYD, and BMW together barely cross 6,000. The car EV market is not a race. It is a Tata monopoly.
Total EV registrations crossed 10 lakh for the first time in 2022. Then hit 15.3 lakh in 2023.
But within that growth, there are sharp divides. Ola, TVS, Ather, and Bajaj kept growing. Hero Electric went from 97,828 in 2022 to 2,211 in 2024, a 97% collapse. Okinawa followed the same path.
Quality, range anxiety, and after-sales service separated winners from losers fast.

Two-wheelers drove the numbers. Three-wheelers got there first. Cars are still a small slice. And within each category, the market moved fast enough to build and destroy entire companies in two years.
This dataset ends at 2024. What happens next, with Ola's profitability challenges, Tata's Nexon EV dominance, and the charging infrastructure gap, is a story the numbers are still writing.
